Parties cost Money - (and other boring facts!)

Life is short.

Sorry to kick things off in the land of clichés, but it’s that kind of a day.

I want to live forever… or at least until 103. I want to sit on my porch with my 73-year-old daughter and 67-year-old son, while their children bring us cake and cuppas. I want to look back on a life well lived and marvel at the Jetson-style technologies in play, that will have me thinking fondly of iPhones and their completely obsolete uselessness.

I love my life so much and cherish everything and everyone in it. The thought of dying saddens me no end… to quote Steve Tyler, “I don’t want to miss a thing.”

So, it goes without saying, that I’m a ‘shout it from the rooftop’ kind of a girl, when it comes to birthdays, and I’m raising my daughter the same way. I have a party every year! Not so I can receive loads of presents, (how awesome are presents!)

I celebrate because I am proud of the life I live, and the world that I am lucky enough to be a part of. I want to surround myself with the people I love and eat cake and cheer myself on! Because I am 1 year closer to 103, and because I am pretty fabulous really!

I don’t want my girl to grow up feeling any kind of shame about her age. Each year older, is another year alive and that is a beautiful thing.

Tomorrow is Willow- Day! My little darling is turning 7, and for the first time ever, there will be no party. I’m not sure how to celebrate a birthday, without going completely overboard. I once threw an Under the Sea party, complete with hundreds of handmade fish, trapped in a ceiling-wide fishnet. I transformed my house into a Spooky Spectacular, because she wanted a Halloween-themed party – there were cobwebs and fake spiders everywhere!

This year is all about saving for Europe, so I have to reign it in.

Does Willow understand?

Yeah.

Does she like it?

Probably not.

Will she survive?

Absolutely!

Will I?

Time will tell.

I’m a party person. I love to attend them and I love to throw them! I give good party!

To not be furiously working on a playlist, decorating to a theme and baking for days in advance, feels very strange. But the truth is, parties cost money – especially the kind I throw.

So, what will I do instead?

Well, this morning I asked Willow if there was anything special she wanted, for her big day. It turns out, that she will be much easier to please than I gave her credit for….

She wants a hot cross bun in her lunchbox!

Who knew birthdays could be celebrated with such little fanfare?!
